Political turmoil in Iran is something we're used to hearing on the news, and not necessarily a topic I would choose to read in a novel. But this story of two young Iranian girls growing up in Tehran in the 1950s and 60s was a beautifully-woven look into "real people" lives against the political backdrop of that day. It brought far-away conflict to a more personal level through a story that kept me interested, and at times, frustrated. I enjoyed it more than I expected!
